Ashima Duggal

Ashima’s is an attorney and passionate about gender equality. Ashima earned a Juris Doctor degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies and Philosophy from the University of Texas.  In law school, Ashima had a disciplinary focus in human rights and wrote a thesis paper on rape and sexual violence against women as a war crime under international law. Ashima was also a fellow in law school with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Domestic Violence court where she prosecuted defendants charged with sexual assault, domestic violence and other crimes.

Ashima has represented immigrants from all over the world with the largest full-service immigration firm in the U.S., worked at the U.S. Department of Labor, and consulted with the New York Immigration Coalition.  Ashima has held leadership positions with the American Immigration Lawyers Association and Asha for Education, a global nonprofit that works to improve literacy in India.  Before going to law school, she interned with the Library of Congress where she authored reports for Congress on foreign affairs issues.
