Train-the-Trainers Workshop for Healthcare Providers

Roundtable on Bystander and Upstander InterventionDAWN teamed up with Center for Enquiry Into Health and Allied Themes (CEHAT) for a three-day workshop on creating a higher standard of care for survivors of gender-based violence. The workshop was attended by nearly 40 healthcare professionals – doctors, nurses, counselors, psychiatrists and advocates – from 15 hospitals in Mumbai, Pune, and Goa.

The workshop focused on: developing communications modules for greater sensitivity in treating victims of gender-based violence; implementing effective screening tools; dismantling biases; utilizing adult learning and facilitation techniques to enhance training programs for healthcare providers; and implementing plans within different work environments to improve responses to survivors.

Attendees were empowered with new practices and tools to incorporate into their hospital training programs and to help other hospitals develop similar training programs throughout Maharashtra. The workshop also was an opportunity to connect diverse healthcare professionals – facilitating collaborative strategies and communication around best practices, shared experiences and roles.
